PREVIEW: OXFORD v BIRMINGHAM (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)

OXFORD and Birmingham meet in a battle of the current bottom two in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership at Cowley tonight (Thursday).

The Spires collected five of their six points so far this season with home and away wins over the Brummies on May Bank Holiday, whilst the visitors have since picked up two wins of their own, and they would move off the foot of the table with an away victory.

Peter Kildemand comes back into the Oxford team after a recent knee injury, whilst track specialist Dan Thompson guests for Craig Cook who is out with illness.

Manager Peter Schroeck said: “The key is that we need to start winning consistently at home, starting with Birmingham. We beat them both home and away at the start of May, but every day is a new day and it is up to us to make sure that we get the job done again.

“I believe Spires will be stronger in the second half of the season. I won’t give up on Spires. There is a lot of quality within the side, and we just need to find consistency and for the team to start performing as a whole.

“We have to beat Birmingham and build up some momentum – and then things can change around very quickly in speedway.”

Meanwhile Ben Barker makes his second debut for Birmingham having signed as their replacement for Michael Jepsen Jensen.

He said: “Birmingham Brummies and Ben Barker, we’re the four Bs and I’m buzzing to be back.

“Coming in for MJJ is going to be ridiculously tough though; he’s a world class rider, a world class performer week in week out.

“But the one thing I can tell you is I will give it 110 per cent! If there’s a gap, I’ll go for it, inside or outside and I’m just hoping I can pull some of those old school moves off and give the crowd something to shout about.”
