PREVIEW: IPSWICH v LEICESTER (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)
IPSWICH celebrate their 75th anniversary at Foxhall tonight (Thursday) with an important ROWE Motor Oil Premiership clash with Leicester along with plenty of additional attractions.
The Witches are looking to hold off the threat of King’s Lynn for a top four place, and they can put three points between the sides ahead of their trip to Norfolk on Monday if they can defeat the Lions.
Scott Nicholls remains on the sidelines for the hosts due to a broken collarbone, with former Witches rider Adam Ellis coming in to guest – having given a sensational performance at Foxhall when racing for Northampton a fortnight ago.
The Lions are without Nick Morris (ankle) and Dan Thompson (hip) after their crash on Monday, although neither are expected to be out long-term and Thompson was close to racing. Anders Rowe comes in to guest.
Nicholls said: “First and foremost, we have to gun for the play-offs. I think that is a realistic chance for us. You have to be honest; if we get into it, we would be going in perhaps as the underdogs, but I think that would be great. It takes the pressure off.
“When it comes to the play-offs, anything can happen. The underdogs could pull out a surprise.”
Lions manager Stewart Dickson said: “Everybody is relived because considering what happened at Northampton, it could have been an awful lot worse.
“Realistically we needed to win there to have any chance of catching Belle Vue so I think that’s gone now, but as long as we don’t do anything silly we should be looking good for the play-offs and hopefully second place.
“We go again on Thursday and whilst we know it will be difficult to repeat what we’ve done there earlier this season, I’m still confident we can put up a good show ahead of bringing them back to us on Bank Holiday Monday.”
