LIONS WIN AWAY AGAIN
LEICESTER made it two successive away wins with a 50-40 victory at Birmingham who await their first points of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership season.
The Lions opened the meeting with 5-1s in the first two races, and although the Brummies hit back to make it a contest, a maximum from Max Fricke and Sam Masters in Heat 13 virtually ensured the visitors’ success.
Each of the Leicester riders won at least one race with Fricke unbeaten until Heat 15 when home captain Tobiasz Musielak produced an excellent move from the back.
Fricke scored 12+2 and Masters added ten, whilst Musielak scored 12 from six rides for the hosts.
Lions boss Stewart Dickson said: “It was a lot closer than on opening night, which I expected to be the case, but we got off to a very good start before we kind of let Birmingham back into it with a bit of misfortune.
“There are one or two things we need to be cuter at on the track, but all in all I’m happy we got the win, and a further two points on the league table, and it’s pleasing to have the team contributing throughout.
“We just need to keep doing what we’re doing – we’re doing well at the moment, and points throughout the team is the pleasing thing.”
Birmingham manager Chris Adams said: “It was an awful start in those first two heats. We sort of managed to claw it back a little bit in the middle, but we just tailed off towards the end.
“There’s been lots of issues and obviously we’re missing Matej (Zagar – visa issues), that’s a big kick to us really.
“But no excuses, Leicester are a really good team and they’re a very tough team to beat here, particularly with the riders they’ve got.”
