LIONS TAKE IT TO THE MAX

LEICESTER duo Max Fricke and Ryan Douglas both scored six-ride paid maximums in a 54-36 win over Oxford to enhance their position in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

The two Australians both racked up 17+1 for the Lions, and Fricke’s performance included a sensational Heat 10 effort when he came from a 15-metre penalty to win the race against Charles Wright and Craig Cook.

The result moves the East Midlands side nine points clear of nearest rivals King’s Lynn in the race for the top four.

Rohan Tungate scored 9+1 for the Spires whilst two of their three race wins came from Charles Wright who picked up 8+1.

Lions manager Stewart Dickson said: “It was a very good night, and we’re very happy with an 18-point victory over a team who have certainly picked up in recent weeks.

“We are going to see a lot of the Max Fricke race, that will be on social media over the next 24 hours, but it was a great team performance and very pleasing to see.

“We had great backing from the supporters, and the noise in the stadium when Max did that was superb. I’m delighted to have two riders with six-rjde maximums, and I’m really pleased to see smiles on people’s faces.”

Spires boss Peter Schroeck said: “We kept in there and kept pushing, but when you’ve got top-class riders like these boys it’s hard.

“Our No.1 (Maciej Janowski) had a really tough night, which is very unusual for him, so we’ll take it on the chin and go again.

“There was still some really good racing, which is important for the fans, but the better team won so congratulations to them.”
