LEVEL PEGGING IN CUP FINAL

KING’S Lynn and Leicester are set for a thrilling Premiership KO Cup Final decider after the first leg in Norfolk finished all-square at 45-45.

Neither side could maintain an advantage at the Adrian Flux Arena with Stars reserves Nicolai Klindt and Luke Harrison putting them into an early lead for a 5-1 in Heat 2, only for the Lions to hit back and open up a six-point lead of their own.

That was clawed back by Lynn by halfway, and they had to make a further comeback from four down as they drew level again in Heat 14 before the final race was shared ahead of Thursday’s return fixture.

Captain Klindt played a starring role with 14+2 from seven rides at reserve, whilst Jan Kvech scored 11+1 and Richard Lawson picked up ten.

The Lions’ guest booking of Tom Brennan came up trumps with 12 points including three race wins, and skipper Max Fricke was also involved in some key races as he scored 9+2.

Stars boss Rob Lyon said: “We knew it would be tough, Leicester are a good side and they picked well with their guest in Tom, and he rode really well.

“We had a couple of boys off-form, but our team is built that way and we’re going to get that from time to time.

“I think both teams rode well, and it was always going to be a tight Final. All of the boys are experienced enough at Leicester, they know what to expect there and it’s down to us to get our heads into it.”

Leicester manager Stewart Dickson said: “The job is half done, and would I have taken that result before the meeting? 100 per cent I would, yes.

“There is a slight tinge of disappointment because we were four points up with four heats to go and we never managed to hold on to the win on the night.

“But at the same time, I can’t be too greedy. It sets it up nicely and King’s Lynn will still feel they’ve got a chance as well, because I know I would if it was one-off match that you just need to win by any score.”
