ACES HIT THE TOP

BELLE Vue moved to the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership with a 48-42 win at Oxford underpinned by big rides by their spearhead in the closing stages of the meeting.

Spires held the lead for the first eight races and the scores were level with three heats to go before Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley romped to a 5-1 in Heat 13.

Zach Cook then won Heat 14 to maintain a four-point lead, and although home racer Charles Wright managed to split Bewley and Kurtz in the decider it was still more than enough for the Aces.

Bewley scored 13+1, dropping his only point to Rohan Tungate in Heat 4 whilst Kurtz recovered from a rare last place in Heat 1 to score 10. Wright top-scored for the Spires with 10+1.

Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon said: “The coin toss was again pretty vital, and Oxford had the better gates early on. We didn’t realise gate four was going to be that bad. 

“But knew it was going to turn around for us as the night went on. 

“Everyone did their bit. Zach came good with two big wins and Jaimon (Lidsey) was solid throughout. 

“Then, of course, our big top two of Dan and Brady delivered the big finish in brilliant style. It was a workmanlike win.”
