WITCHES TOP AFTER HOME VICTORY

IPSWICH lead the early Premiership table after a 51-39 win over Sheffield at Foxhall.

Jason Crump enjoyed his best night since making his comeback to the sport with a 13-point haul, winning his opening three rides before losing out to Adam Ellis in Heats 13 and 15.

Skipper Danny King added 9+2 as the Witches produced a solid display, whilst Ellis racked up 16 on his Tigers debut – but captain Kyle Howarth (10+2) offered the only consistent support in the absence of Jack Holder.

Ipswich boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “I’m really happy, it was a great result and a solid team performance. I believe we are still capable of improving but it was a solid night.

“It was nice to see Crumpy top of the score charts, it has been a long time for him, so it is nice for everyone to see that!

“I wasn’t too worried about Drew’s (Kemp) performance last week, but he definitely looked like he had got his first home meeting out of the way and he looked more like the rider we have seen in practice, and I was pleased to see him get his first win.”

Ellis said: “I’m pleased with my performance and it was great to finally make my debut for Sheffield. It was good to catch up with all the guys.

“When we have a full team, I think we’ll be a force. I was nervous before the start but after my first ride I felt fine.

“When we’ve got Jack back in the side, we’ll be a tough team to beat.”
