WITCHES IN CONTROL

IPSWICH took a huge step towards the Premiership KO Cup Final with an emphatic 57-33 home win over Peterborough.

The Witches’ top four were all in terrific form with Australian youngster Keynan Rew notching his first paid maximum in the UK with 12+3 from five rides.

No.1 Jason Doyle was also unbeaten with 11+1 from four, whilst Danny King racked up 17 from six and Emil Sayfutdinov added 12+2, with Benjamin Basso and Richie Worrall the only Panthers riders to take points off them.

Jordan Jenkins was the visitors’ other race winner but he withdrew from the meeting with a nose injury after falling in Heat 4.

Ipswich boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “It was a great performance and we have built a very good lead, but I was just happy with the improvement shown in the side. We are carrying on that improvement every meeting and it was nice to see.

“It was a very good meeting with lots of good racing and a good all round team performance and I am very happy.

“Everybody is delighted to see Keynan ride like that and get his first paid maximum, it was brilliant to see.”

Panthers manager Rob Lyon said: “Every night is tough at the minute, and three heat winners tells its own story.

“Ipswich are a good side at home with the top two boys, and Danny is riding as good as I’ve seen him ride to be fair, so they were deserved winners tonight.”
