POSTPONED: IPSWICH v PETERBOROUGH (Prem)

THURSDAY night’s clash between Ipswich and Peterborough was postponed at midday due to a forecast for heavy rain and wind. The Panthers will now visit Foxhall on July 20, with the June 22 match becoming the Round 1 fixture.

IPSWICH clash with Peterborough in the Premiership at Foxhall tonight (Thursday) with several returning riders set to make the headlines.

The Witches reached the play-offs after topping the table for a lengthy period last year, but crashed out to eventual champions Belle Vue in the semi-finals – whilst the Panthers’ defence of their ’21 title never got started as they took the wooden spoon.

A powerhouse Ipswich top-order now features former World No.3 Emil Sayfutdinov alongside the league’s top rider Jason Doyle, and Peterborough have recruited treble World Champion Nicki Pedersen  – who, like Sayfudtinov, last raced in the UK league back in 2011 – along with fellow Dane Niels-Kristian Iversen.

Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “What an opening-night fixture this is. We have got Email back, the best rider in the league in Jason Doyle, and Nicki Pedersen is back for Peterborough.

“It should be a cracker and I’m sure we will have a big crowd to support us.”

Panthers boss Rob Lyon said: “Some of the boys won’t have turned a wheel by the time they get to Ipswich, so that does mean it can be a bit of a lottery for the first meeting.

“You’re always quietly confident going to Ipswich because we’ve done well there for two years, although we’ve got some different riders now.

“Hans (Andersen) is pretty good around Ipswich, Benjamin (Basso) is as well, and Nicki and Niels will deal with it I’m sure. I think it will be close whatever score it is, whether it’s in our favour or theirs, and I’m sure it will be the same at home.”

IPSWICH: Jason Doyle, Keynan Rew, Danny King, Erik Riss, Emil Sayfutdinov, Danyon Hume, Joe Thompson.
PETERBOROUGH: Nicki Pedersen, Hans Andersen, Richie Worrall, Benjamin Basso, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Ben Cook, Jordan Jenkins.
