FANS RETURN TO BRITISH SPEEDWAY
BRITISH Speedway’s Premiership is back tonight (Monday) after a year off – with supporters in attendance at three of the sport’s top-flight venues.
Belle Vue host Sheffield and King’s Lynn take on Ipswich, whilst Wolverhampton stage the individual ‘Thank You NHS Trophy’ prior to the start of their league campaign next week.
Domestic racing was halted last March after the charity Ben Fund Bonanza at Scunthorpe, meaning tonight’s meetings are the first professional speedway events in the UK with a crowd since October 2019 – coming on the very first day of the easing of government restrictions.
And all staging clubs have reported rapid sales of their online tickets, with all currently operating with restricted capacities.
British Speedway Director Chris Louis said: “It’s been a long, long trek to get here and we’ve had so much to contend with.
“But there’s been a big team of us, and everybody has taken the weight when they’ve needed to.
“We’ve had a tough lead-up to it in the last month, but everything is in place and the excitement is building. I’m so excited to be back in a speedway stadium.”
