TOP SPOT FOR FEN TIGERS

MILDENHALL are back on top of the National Development League having been pushed hard in a 48-41 win over Edinburgh at West Row.

The Fen Tigers were only one point ahead with three races remaining, but they made sure of victory with a 5-1 in Heat 14 from George Congreve and Josh Warren.

Alfie Bowtell (11+1) and Lee Complin (11) led the way for the hosts with Complin recovering from a crash in his opening ride due to a broken chain. Meanwhile Jacob Hook collected 12 points for the Monarchs Academy.

Mildenhall manager Jason Gardner said: “I’m very pleased with the whole team today and it was especially pleasing to see young William [Richardson] right in the mix in all his rides, and also a word about that massive second place for Josh, picking himself off the deck after a heavy crash in Heat 14.

“Edinburgh were a tough outfit, and a win by seven points puts us back top of the league and gives us a target to hold onto when we visit north of the border next month.”

Academy boss Scott Wilson said: “This was one we let slip, there’s no question about it. Some mistakes and the track catching us out in a couple of instances have cost us a win.

“I felt at the Heat 10 interval that we were in with a great chance of winning, looking at the remaining heats. After pulling ourselves back to within one point we just couldn’t finish the job.

“However, we have pushed a good side all the way and put ourselves in contention to collect the aggregate point at home later in the season.”
