FEN TIGERS FEND OFF BULLETS

MILDENHALL made it two NDL wins out of two by defeating Berwick 49-41 in an entertaining clash at West Row on Sunday.

The Bullets were much improved compared to recent visits, where they had registered scores of just 22, 33 and 29 points – whereas this contest went down to a last-heat decider.

Alfie Bowtell (14) and Lee Complin (11+1) secured the victory for the home side with a 5-1 in the last race, Complin having dropped his only points when he was disqualified from Heat 13 after a clash with Connor Coles. Reserve Arran Butcher weighed in with 9+1.

Former Mildenhall rider Coles and Danny Phillips both scored 11 for the Bullets with reserve Jamie Halder on 9+2.

Fen Tigers co-owner Phil Kirk said: “This was a fantastic advert for NDL speedway and we must give a lot of credit to the Berwick riders for their efforts today, they kept our boys honest all meeting and both sides produced some fantastic entertainment for the crowd.

“Greg (Palmer) and his team produced an excellent racetrack and their efforts were a major factor on what I felt was one of the best meetings at Mildenhall for a long time.”

Berwick coach Kevin Little said: “From the bottom up everyone has come away thinking that they have performed well and learned something about themselves.

“Mildenhall and Leicester are seen by everyone as being good teams so, having pushed both close at home, I guess that means we are a good team too. It certainly gives us a sporting chance of picking up both aggregate points.”
