CUBS ON TOP OVER COMETS
LEICESTER ran up a big 53-37 away win at Workington to put one foot in the NDL KO Cup Final.
The Lion Cubs took control of the first leg at Northside with a hat-trick of early 5-1s in Heats 3 to 5, and the Comets were never able to claw back that advantage.
Ashton Boughen top-scored for the visitors with 14+1 from six rides, and reserve Max James added 10+4 from seven. Connor Bailey scores 12 for the home side.
Leicester boss Dave Howard said: “We’ve still got to finish the job, but obviously to have a 16-point lead is fantastic, and it puts us in a great position to get to the Cup Final and defend our trophy.
“Everybody put in some really good performances, the whole team rode well and there was some great racing and overtaking moves as well.
“Those three 5-1s in a row really gave us a big boost to put us ahead, and we managed to keep that lead which puts us in a strong position for the second leg to come.”
