CHARGERS ON FIRE

OXFORD sent out a huge statement of NDL title intent with a rampant 57-32 win at Edinburgh on Friday.

Henry Atkins scored a 15-point maximum for the Chargers and skipper Jordan Jenkins was also unbeaten with 13+2 whilst Ryan Kinsley scored 11 from four rides as the visitors’ heat-leaders dominated the meeting – and new signing Kelsey Dugard won two races.

The Monarchs Academy won just two races, those coming from Jacob Hook and reserve Dayle Wood who enjoyed his best night since joining with 8+1, but Alex Spooner was withdrawn after a fall in Heat 9.

Oxford boss Peter Schroeck said: “Tonight was a big result for us. Edinburgh Academy are by no means a weak team and they’ve won both of their home meetings prior to this evening convincingly.

“Jordan and Henry were outstanding, but the boys clicked as a unit which was vital in the outcome of the meeting. In the races both of our riders completed, we only registered three last places which is very pleasing.”

Wood said: “It was unfortunate for the boys, not the result we wanted, but a big improvement for me, getting out of the starts.

“I had made some changes to my bike, still a few mistakes cost me a few points but that’s racing.”
