THOMPSON FOURTH AT VOJENS

IPSWICH and Glasgow star Dan Thompson enjoyed his best meeting in the SGP2 (World Under-21) series with fourth place in Vojens on Friday.

Thompson scored ten points from five rides and was certainly amongst the contenders for victory on the night, but with the Last Chance Qualifiers and Final not raced due to heavy rain, the classification was called after Heat 20.

The result still pushed Thompson up to eighth place overall in the series, which was a creditable result considering the opening round took place just after his return from injury.

He said: “I have worked hard on my equipment and riding to push for better scores against the best U21 riders in the world. I would like to thank everyone who helped me to compete in the series.”

Jake Mulford again found conditions tough and had a night of bike issues and ended the night with a solidarity point, meaning he finished 18th in the series.

Ukraine’s Nazar Partinskyi won the meeting and was crowned SGP2 World Champion, overhauling defending title holder Wiktor Przyjemski of Poland, with Denmark’s Mikkel Andersen – son of former Coventry and Oxford star Brian – taking bronze.
