SUPER CAIRNS MAXES OUT
GREAT Britian youngster William Cairns scored a fabulous 15-point maximum to win his SGP3 semi-final in Teterow on Saturday.
The 14-year-old now has the opportunity to fight for the youth world title at 250cc level in Gorzow next weekend, and he will be joined in the Final by Cooper Rushen who made it though the other semi on six points.
Poland’s Maksymilian Pawelczak was unbeaten in that event, whilst the third British rider Seth Norman was eliminated after mechanical trouble.
Cairns said: “It took me a while to get used to the Teterow track in practice, but we got the set-up right and it all turned out well.
“It’s on to Gorzow now. It’s always a thrill to ride a GP track and be in that Speedway GP environment – we will have the SGP pits and stage there. That’s always cool.
“I will give it my best shot and hopefully get on the podium. I’ll be up against Maks, and he is a really good racer. He’s definitely going to put on a show for the whole of Poland on Friday.”
Meanwhile Rachel Hellowell was placed fifth in the FIM Women’s Speedway Gold Trophy after scoring six points, a total matched by Katie Gordon who finished seventh of the eleven competing rides. Workington’s Celina Liebmann took the title with a maximum.
