SILVER’S SADNESS

KENT chief Len Silver has expressed his shock and sadness at the passing of former British Speedway vice-chairman Jon Cook.

Cook’s first promoting role in the sport was alongside Silver with Eastbourne in 1993, and he went on to enjoy extensive success at Arlington.

Silver said: “I first met him at Eastbourne when I ran the club in the early Nineties and he was quickly installed as my administrator, learning the business of speedway promoting.

“We became very close friends and he took over the promoting reins when I left the club.

“He had an acute and active brain and he was, quite rightly, highly respected throughout the sport. My thoughts to Louise and his family at this sad time.”
