SILVER FOR HARRIS

GREAT Britain star Chris Harris had to settle for runners-up spot in the FIM Long Track World Championship as German ace Martin Smolinski took the title in Muhldorf.

Harris, the Peterborough and Glasgow skipper, led the series by one point ahead of the deciding sixth round, but he fell one place short of reaching the Final in Germany.

Smolinski, who rode extensively in the UK for Coventry and Birmingham earlier in his career, had already reached the Final by the time Harris missed out, and he was therefore crowned champion for the second time prior to that race.

He finished second on the day to Kenneth Hansen, giving him the title by a seven-point margin, with the Dane’s victory seeing him edge out another GB rider, Zach Wajtknecht, for third place overall.

Second place was still Harris’s best finish in the series as he went one better than in 2022 after  a season which saw him take individual round victories for the first time at Ostrow and Marmande.
