PREVIEW: JAY CARTMELL MEMORIAL, WORKINGTON

WORKINGTON stage a special meeting at the GT Tyres Arena today (Saturday) to honour the memory of young supporter Jay Cartmell.

It is almost a year to the day since the eight-year-old lost his life in tragic circumstances, and members of the community and sponsors have given extensive backing to the event.

A four-team tournament will take place with names chosen in recognition of Jay’s favourite characters from online computer game Fortnite.

Comets promoter James Denham said: “Jay is an example of what speedway does for people. Members of the Cartmell family have given a heartfelt thank you to every single person and business who have pledged support, donations, raffle prizes and their time ahead of Saturday’s meeting.

“This is going to be a very special meeting for Jay, it will also be very competitive with very evenly matched teams facing each other throughout. Leigha and James (parents) have done a fantastic job of pulling this line-up together.”
