PREVIEW: FIM SGP2 QUALIFIER, GLASGOW (START TIME NOW 6.30PM)

THREE Great Britain riders will be looking to make progress into the FIM SGP2 series by making it through tonight’s (Saturday) Qualifier at Glasgow. START-TIME NOW 6.30pm due to weather forecast.

British Under-21 runner-up Joe Thompson – replacing his injured brother Dan – along with home rider Ashton Boughen and semi-finalist last week Jake Mulford, all hope to be in the race for a top four finish and qualification to the full three-round competition.

The line-up at Ashfield also includes top Danish youngsters Mikkel Andersen and Villads Nagel, Workington and Belle Vue rider Tate Zischke, American prospect Slater Lightcap and female German racer Patricia Erhart.

She said: “I’m excited to be in Scotland for the first time ever. I’ve only raced in England before, National Speedway Stadium in Manchester is the only UK track I’ve ridden.

“It’s a huge opportunity to compete in an SGP2 Qualifier against so many talented racers. I just want to enjoy the experience.”

Glasgow director Peter Facenna said: “It’s a shame for Dan because I think he would have gone in as favourite, as he was on Sunday. I think he would have had a very good chance of winning on Sunday had he not been injured in his first ride.

“But it’s good that Joe’s here and Allied also sponsors Joe so there’s a connection there, Ashton is a Glasgow rider so hopefully he can do well, and Jake just missed out on the Final on Sunday so it’s a strong British contingent.

“It’s a big occasion. We find that most riders who come here from across the world enjoy the track, and it will be really interesting to see how they do.”

Meanwhile British Under-21 Champion Sam Hagon is also in action in an equivalent qualifier at Czech Republic venue Pardubice.
