LAMBERT ON TOP IN LODZ

GREAT Britain’s Robert Lambert moved into World Championship title contention with a superb victory in Saturday’s Grand Prix of Poland in Lodz.

Lambert’s second career GP win moved him to within eight points of Brady Kurtz and Bartosz Zmarzlik, who are tied on 109 points with three rounds remaining.

Belle Vue skipper Kurtz finished third in the meeting, with Polish racer Patryk Dudek on the podium in second as Zmarzlik missed out on reaching a Final for the first time in over a year.

Lambert said: “It was a bit of carnage in the first corner, but after the first lap being in front was something good, but the race wasn’t done.

“I didn’t know which line to run, but I just sent it out wide and hoped for the best and we kept on to make it.

“Now there’s no pressure on me for the GPs next year I’m just enjoying the meetings. My goal has stayed the same as the beginning of the season, top seven, but obviously that’s adapted a little bit. I’ll push for a medal and we’ll see what colour it is.”

The next Grand Prix is in Latvia next weekend, and then Lambert will defend his British title at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium on Saturday August 15.

Kurtz is officially ranked as GP series leader ahead of Zmarzlik on countback, although should the scores be level at the end of Round 10 there would be a run-off for the title.
