KING’S LYNN TO STAGE BEN FUND

THE Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund is gearing up to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2023 and have confirmed a date has been set for the annual Ben Fund Bonanza benefit meeting.

This year, the event will take place at King’s Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday, March 25 at 5pm and already excitement is mounting for the traditional British Speedway season opener.

The SRBF was formed in 1948 by Lieutenant Colonel Reginald Vernon Charlesworth Brook OBE, Sir Arthur James Elvin MBE, and Major Cecil Laurence Smith with an investment of £6179.

Since then, the registered charity has made it our mission to assist Speedway riders, past and present, in both the short and long-term following serious or life-changing injuries while competing in the UK.

Great Britain is unique in this manner, in that it is the only Speedway nation to have a dedicated charity to assist injured riders, and its average annual expenditure to that effect is roughly £100,000.

SRBF Chairman Paul Ackroyd said: “We are pleased and proud to confirm that the Ben Fund Bonanza once again will feature amongst the early season fixtures in Britain.

“This meeting is a vital lifeline both for the Benevolent Fund and the riders who rely on us, as it accrues around a quarter of our annual expenditure.

“But over the years we have only seen support for this great cause grow and we anticipate that will remain the case for this year’s event at King’s Lynn.

“We could not operate without the generosity of the public. Times are hard at the moment, with the cost of living crisis, and we are just blown away by the support we continue to receive.

“This year’s Ben Fund Bonanza promises to be a very special event as we celebrate our 75th anniversary, and further updates will be issued in the coming weeks.”

Private donations to the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund can be made online via PayPal, by texting SRBF to 70085 to donate £5 or by cheque. Full details at SRBF.CO.UK.
