GB U19s SIXTH IN PLZEN

GREAT Britain’s inexperienced team finished sixth in the European Under-19 Pairs at Czech venue Plzen on Saturday.

Will Cairns and Jody Scott both picked up race wins in a meeting which saw the five nations outside of the top two separated by just five points.

Cairns scored eight with Scott and Luke Harrison both picking up three as GB finished ahead of Ukraine, and just behind the Czech Republic, Germany and Sweden.

Denmark, who included Glasgow star Villads Nagel, won the meeting five points clear of runners-up Poland.

GB boss Neil Vatcher said: “We always knew it was going to be tough, this was the first event for Will and Jody, and Luke is pretty inexperienced as well.

“We’ve been to Plzen a few times before and knew it’s a pretty rough track. There always seem to be incidents here, so it’s not unexpected.

“Initially we’re disappointed with the sixth place; however, the boys will learn and gain from it. They are very young, it’s early in their careers, and we’ll go again.”
