GB LAUNCH SWC BID

GREAT Britain kick off their FIM Speedway World Cup campaign in the first semi-final at Wroclaw, Poland tonight (Tuesday).

Home-track duo Tai Woffinden and Dan Bewley are joined by fellow GP racer Robert Lambert, Adam Ellis and Tom Brennan in the team to face Germany, Sweden and the Czech Republic, with one automatic place in the Final available.

The World Cup is back on the calendar for the first time since 2017, and Lambert is keen for GB to get their hands on the iconic Ove Fundin Trophy after their success in the Speedway of Nations two years ago.

He said: “I was born nine years after they last won the World Cup (in 1989). I haven’t seen it in my lifetime and to add a World Cup win to the history books would be pretty incredible.

“Winning the SON was something special. I hope that we will continue that form. We had a little bit of bad luck last year in the Final of the SON. But I think we have the best chance possible in the SWC.

“I would love to add that to my collection and CV, so we will do everything possible – individually and also as a team – to make that a reality. I think we have a good chance, and the odds are very high on us getting a medal.”
