GREAT Britain Under-21 boss Neil Vatcher paid tribute to his side’s all-round effort after they secured bronze medals from Friday’s World Team event in Poland.

Captain Tom Brennan gave an outstanding display at Bydgoszcz, winning four races to finish on 20 points – which, backed up by Drew Kemp (5+1) and Leon Flint (2), put GB into the semi-final one point clear of Australia.

They were beaten by Denmark in the semi, who then in turn lost out to Poland in the Final as the hosts clinched the title for an incredible eighth successive year.

Vatcher said: “It was another special night for British Speedway, and four consecutive medals in this competition is an absolutely fantastic result against the World’s best Under-21 riders.

“We are competing the World’s best on an annual basis now and consistently winning medals. It was not so long ago we were scoring single figures just to try and qualify for these events, and now we are winning medals on a regular basis.

“Special mention for Tom who was making his GB debut captaining the team, and how he took on that responsibility.

“I know some people didn’t fancy us without an outright No.1 like we have had in previous seasons like a (Robert) Lambert or a (Dan) Bewley, but Tom certainly took on that mantle and was without doubt one of the stars of the whole event.

“All credit must go to the whole GB team out here in Bydgoszcz, including the mechanics and the GB staff, and of course also the gritty performances of both Drew and Leon.”
