ACES DUO IN WORLD’S TOP THREE

BELLE Vue captain Brady Kurtz created speedway history by becoming the first rider to win five successive GPs – but it wasn’t quite enough to see him take the World Championship title.

Kurtz’s stunning run of form saw him take the challenge to defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik right down to the wire in Vojens on Saturday.

But although Kurtz won the Final of the Danish GP, second place for Zmarzlik saw him secure his record-equalling sixth title by a single point overall, meaning the Australian had to be content with silver in his debut GP campaign.

Kurtz said: “Obviously it’s tough to come that close to winning, but I am also so grateful and happy to win silver in my first year.

“To win five GPs is absolutely unbelievable. To get the silver medal is a hell of an achievement. 

“I have to say congratulations to Bartek. You have to respect him and admire him. He’s a hell of a competitor. I am not sure what I have to do to beat him, but I need to keep working on that.”

Meanwhile Kurtz’s Aces team-mate Dan Bewley finished fourth on the night which was enough to secure bronze overall, the best result of his career, and fellow British rider Robert Lambert finished seventh overall to confirm his place in the 2026 series.
