PREVIEW: CLRC, SHEFFIELD
DOUBLE winner Sam Masters is chasing a Championship League Riders’ Championship hat-trick in the showpiece event at Sheffield today (Saturday).
Masters took his first title at Owlerton back in 2011 when it was known as the PLRC, and he also triumphed at Poole four years ago.
The Oxford skipper led his side to Pairs success at Wimborne Road with Anders Rowe earlier this month, and now lines up in the major individual meeting.
Masters said: “It would be nice to get a third – especially around Sheffield. I’ve had some pretty good meetings there in the past but I’ve had some really bad ones too.
“Hopefully it’s a really good one. The first aim is getting into the Final and then it all starts again. I won it at Sheffield in 2011 so to do it again there 15 years later would be quite the story to tell.
“To win the Pairs and the CLRC, the two big Championship events, in one year would be cool.”
One further change has been confirmed with Oxford’s Luke Killeen – who also rides for Sheffield in the Premiership – replacing Workington’s Troy Batchelor who has withdrawn with an injury sustained at work.
