PAIRFECT NIGHT FOR CHEETAHS

OXFORD manager Peter Schroeck has admitted the club’s Championship Best Pairs triumph came as a welcome boost after the toughest of seasons.

The Cheetahs were plunged into uncertainty in April following the termination of the stadium’s greyhound streaming contract, before Mike Austin and Spencer Timmo joined the promotion team to ensure their season could continue.

They were unable to challenge for a play-off spot in the Cab Direct Championship, but Sam Masters and Anders Rowe sealed Pairs silverware at Poole on Wednesday.
Schroeck said: “I’m so chuffed with the result. It’s what everyone connected with the club deserves at the end of such a rough year.

“It wasn’t just about winning. It was about bringing back something to everyone at Oxford, and say thank you for continuing for backing our great club.

“It’s been a hard year both on and off the track and we could still end up with the wooden spoon in the Championship. But this result gives us new hope and new belief heading into next season, when we will come back stronger.”
