LAMBERT: NOTHING TO LOSE

SCUNTHORPE skipper Simon Lambert is determined to make the most of his opportunity in tonight’s (Monday) Sports Insure British Final.

Lambert is enjoying the best season of his career with the Scorpions and has also picked up a place in the top-flight with King’s Lynn.

He said: “I’ve got nothing to lose and so much to gain in the British Final. It’s the first year that I’ve qualified on merit, as opposed to stepping in when other riders have been unable to do the meeting. It was a goal of mine to qualify on merit.

“It’s a good thing for my family, my friends, and my sponsors to be in the British Final – it’s a big date in the calendar.

“I’m going to enjoy it and do my best. I’m not saying I’m going to win it, but I’m not going there to make up the numbers.

“I’ve got a good draw at No 1 and there’s no reason that I can’t jump out of the start in Heat 1 and give myself a bit of confidence and build on that.”
