Report

SHEFFIELD took the advantage in their play-off semi-final with Wolverhampton by pulling off a 47-43 away win from the first leg at Monmore Green.

The Tigers put on an impressive, solid display led by former British Champion Adam Ellis on 11+1 but with all of their team making key contributions.

Wolves suffered a host of falls and mechanical issues but did gain a 5-1 from top-scorer Nick Morris (14) and Sam Masters in Heat 15 to bring the gap back to four points ahead of the second leg on Thursday.

Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “I thought that was another really really good team performance and again it’s great to see all the lads doing their bit.

“If you’d have offered me a four point lead before the meeting I’d definitely have taken it; Wolverhampton have got a good team themselves and it’s never an easy place to come to.

“It would have been nice if we could have finished on a positive note, but I don’t want that last heat 5-1 to take the shine off anything.”

Morris said: “It’s never ideal to go into the second leg off a defeat, but we’re not throwing the towel in yet.

“We’ve gone to Sheffield this season and won already. Four points is four points – we’ve just got to go there and win again.”
