Report

SHEFFIELD roared back into the Premiership play-off places with a stunning last-heat win over Belle Vue at Owlerton.

Simon Stead’s men provided eleven heat winners on the way to a 46-44 triumph, and they needed Jack Holder to hold his nerve in the final race and inflict the Aces’ first defeat of the season.

Holder scored 12 for the Tigers with Adam Ellis adding ten, whilst Dan Bewley led the way for the Aces with 10+1 as they took a league point from the meeting.

Stead said: “What a great team performance with everyone pulling together to work hard as a unit. That’s a good result against a really good Belle Vue team.

“I knew exactly what I’d get from Anders (Rowe – guest). I’ve known him for a long, long time and he’s always said if I ever needed him he’d give me 100%, and that’s exactly what he did.

“You can’t fault the lad’s commitment – some of the passes he pulled off for the minor placings were brilliant.”

Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon said: “Our focus was on getting a point at minimum to bolster our away point tally, so we can be satisfied that we accomplished this goal.

“There were places where points shouldn’t have slipped, but the boys who dropped those points are already massively disappointed, so we need to learn from this and move on to the next one.

“We couldn’t expect to go an entire season and not get beaten, but it’s a great feeling to have got as far as we have without suffering any losses.”
