SCUNTHORPE ended the last remaining unbeaten record in the Championship with a thrilling victory over Edinburgh on Sunday.
The Scorpions won 54-36 in a meeting which produced top-class racing and also a career-best performance from home youngster Jordan Palin.
The 17-year-old took extra rides after Josh MacDonald was ruled out with a hand injury and piled up a total of 16+2 – whilst Josh Pickering notched 13 for the Monarchs.
Palin sad: “I certainly didn’t expect to win as many races as I did, while it was a very good team performance because Edinburgh are a strong team on paper.
“After Josh pulled out and I had to take the seven rides, the whole thing merged together really. I was just trying to take it race-by-race, keep calm and keep on doing what I was doing.”
Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “Sam (Masters) had what will be his worst match of the season – if you add the eight or nine more points he would normally score on, then it would have been a lot closer.
“We always find Scunthorpe a difficult track to come to, and people are right in saying it is difficult to be a visitor here.”
