Report

SCUNTHORPE set up a Championship KO Cup semi-final clash with Redcar by sweeping Birmingham aside at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The Scorpions already held a two-point lead going into the meeting and raced to a 61-29 home win over the struggling Brummies.

Reserve Connor Mountain starred with 11+2 whilst skipper Simon Lambert kept up his strong run of form with 10+4 as the hosts enjoyed a bumper night of scoring throughout.

Nick Morris picked up nine points for the Brummies, who conceded 60+ for the second away match in succession.

Lambert said: “It was another really fantastic performance from the team, with everyone chipping in points.

“I really think we can think something this year, we’re going to be contention in the league and we’re now through to the semi-finals of the Cup. We had a good team, but now I think the team we’ve ended up with is even stronger than before.

“It would have been nice to get another maximum. But I’ve had a few now – I had one last week. It would have been great to get a five-ride maximum tonight, but I can’t be too disappointed with paid 14.”

Meanwhile the winners in the British Youth round which followed the senior match were Jamie Etherington (250cc) and Kane Newby (125cc support).
