Report

REDCAR pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat Scunthorpe 46-44 at the Ecco Arena and keep their Championship season alive.

The Bears trailed by ten points with three races remaining but finished with three successive 5-1s to snatch the victory with no margin for error.

But the Scorpions still took a league point which leaves them sixth in the table, ahead of Redcar on race points difference with both clubs having one away match remaining, and mathematically both could yet overhaul Plymouth, who are currently fifth.

Scunthorpe looked set to be inspired to victory by Adam Roynon, who had been released by the Bears earlier this summer and returned to haunt his old club with 11+1.

But a stunning performance by Lewis Kerr to rack up 19+1, supported by Charles Wright on 9+1, got the home side over the line.

Roynon said: “I’ve been looking to put together a performance like this all season. I know I’m capable of doing it and it all came good for me tonight.

“Of course, I’m really disappointed that we couldn’t seal the win, but Redcar have got a habit of pulling it out of the bag in the last few races around here. In a couple of races at the end, we were against the Championship Pairs winners.

“We wanted to win tonight, but who knows, the point that we did get might be the point that gets us into the play-offs.”
