Redcar Bears v Newcastle Diamonds Select

REDCAR have suffered a major injury blow after skipper Charles Wright crashed in the final race of the Tyne/Tees Trophy against Newcastle.

A strong Diamonds Select side were already 49-35 up heading into Heat 15 when Wright came down on the first bend, and the meeting was abandoned at that stage.

He has now been discharged from hospital but Redcar have confirmed he faces a lengthy period on the sidelines with a dislocated and fractured shoulder.

Former Redcar star Danny King made a successful return to the ECCO Arena with a four-ride 11+1 paid maximum, including a last-bend pass on Jake Allen to win Heat 11.

Victor Palovaara (9) and Lewis Kerr (8+1) both won two races for the visitors and Simon Lambert contributed 9+1 at reserve.

Jason Edwards top scored for the Bears with 8+1 and Allen scored 8, with the hosts restricted to four race wins.
