Report

REDCAR retained the Tyne-Tees Trophy with a 46-44 win over a Newcastle Diamonds Select side in a last-heat decider.

The visiting line-up put together by Bears bosses gave their own side exactly the test they required ahead of the Cab Direct Championship, and the Diamonds led the meeting until Heat 10 having been six points up at one stage.

In the end, home duo Danny King and Erik Riss packed in behind Steve Worrall in Heat 15 for a 3-3 to edge Redcar to a narrow victory.

Riss top-scored for the Bears with 13+1 after winning his first four rides, with King and Charles Wright both notching 11. Worrall scored 12 for the Diamonds Select.

Co-promoter Jamie Swales told redcar-speedway.com: “The three heat leaders were awesome throughout, so I knew they were going to keep us in the meeting, but it was just about the other four boys building their confidence which definitely came by the end.

“All of the four boys had at least one good ride in the meeting, which is encouraging.

“Connor (Bailey) had the wrong set-up at the start which was part of the reason we did tonight’s meeting, but by the end of the night he was away and riding really well!”
