Report

POOLE moved back to within one point of Oxford in the Cab Direct Championship with a thumping 59-31 win over Edinburgh at Wimborne Road.

The Pirates took control early as they went ten points up inside the first three races, and they recorded a total of six 5-1s throughout the meeting.

Captain Steve Worrall led the scoring with 12 points whilst Richard Lawson (10+2) was unbeaten prior to suffering mechanical issues in Heat 15. Anders Rowe contributed 9+2 at reserve.

For the visitors, Josh Pickering won three races on his way to 11+1 although he suffered a disqualification in Heat 6 when he was adjudged to have caused Kyle Newman to fall.

Pirates manager Neil Middleditch said: “That was a good result, a clinical win and it just shows the strength and depth we have at the moment.

“We could be looking at Kyle (Newman) going back to reserve next month, it depends of course on the averages, with Anders going back into the side, and to be honest I would be happy with that because in those two we have got reserves who can beat any other reserve in the country and that is the key to having a strength in depth side.”

Monarchs boss John Campbell said: “We’ve had a tough season. You can’t come to probably the best team in the league when you’ve got your No.1 missing and no suitable guest, without it being a very difficult match. We did get one or two decisions going against us.”

POOLE 59: Steve Worrall 12, Richard Lawson 10+2, Anders Rowe 9+2, Kyle Newman 9+1, Ben Cook 8, Zach Cook 7+2, Joe Thompson 4+2.
EDINBURGH 31: Josh Pickering 11+1, Kye Thomson 9+1, Paco Castagna 5, Max Clegg 3, Bastian Borke 2, Dayle Wood 1, Craig Cook r/r.
