Report
PLYMOUTH moved to the top of the Southern section of the BSN Series with a hard-fought 49-41 home win over Oxford.
The Gladiators took match and aggregate points against the Cheetahs as their solid side came up trumps once again at the Coliseuem.
Kyle Newman scored 14+1 from six rides in a strong display with Ben Barker adding ten and Dan Thompson 9+2, with the result secured by a 5-1 in Heat 14 from Newman and Joe Thompson.
Scott Nicholls led the way for the Cheetahs with 13+1 and Sam Masters scored 10+1, but their hopes of topping the group now rest with salvaging an unlikely aggregate point against Poole on Wednesday.
Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “We did have one or two little pieces of bad luck, for example one race [Heat 8] got stopped when we were on a 5-1 and Plymouth took a 5-1 in the re-run. It’s small moments that can shift the momentum on the night.
“The boys got stuck in, but one or two of them were struggling tonight – it’s not the easiest place to come.
“But I prefer to take the positives from the night, and it just makes us all the more determined to do well in both the league and the Cup.”
