Report

GLASGOW closed in on the top of the Cab Direct Championship with a 48-42 win at injury-hit Plymouth on Tuesday.

The Tigers gradually extended their lead to 12 points after Heat 10 before the Gladiators finished the meeting strongly but had too much to do.

Benjamin Basso (12+1) and Claus Vissing (11+1) led the way for the visitors with Kyle Howarth notching 15 from seven rides for the hosts and Richie Worrall picked up 13 from six.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “It was a really good win for the boys. They really dug in and we had a few top performances.

“It was a fine all-round team display but I must mention that Claus Vissing and Lee Complin were outstanding in the early stages which helped us take control of the meeting. Our middle Danish pairing were the real engine room of the performance.”

Brown also defended skipper Tom Brennan after an on-track incident with Gladiators guest Nathan Ablitt which resulted in angry scenes at the pits gate.

The Speedway Control Bureau are awaiting further information from the referee and footage before issuing further comment.

Brown said: “The incident with Tom was caused by Nathan. He went in really hard under Tom on the third bend and nearly caused a major crash with Lee as well.

“Tom was obviously annoyed about that and he’s always going to be fired-up when the adrenaline is flowing. Tom apologised after the incident and these things happen.”

Plymouth manager Garry May said: “I thought the riders rode really well in the second half of the meeting, and we were coming back at them.

“Glasgow were a full side but I can only do what I can do, and that was the best team I could put out tonight.”
