Report

PETERBOROUGH signed off from league racing at the East of England Arena with a 49-41 win over local rivals King’s Lynn.

The result completed a run of six successive home victories in all competitions for the Panthers, although they had no answer to Stars No.1 Robert Lambert who struck a brilliant 17+1 paid maximum in the last official fixture at the venue.

Reserve Ben Cook defied the injury he picked up at Poole on Wednesday to top-score for the hosts with 10+2 with Benjamin Basso adding 9+1, whilst Michael Palm Toft (8) won the final race on his old home track in a consolation 5-1 with Lambert.

Panthers manager Rob Lyon said: “The track was a bit of a leveller tonight, it was a lot slicker than Monday, and obviously with the influence of Robert we knew it would be a tougher meeting.

“But the boys pulled through again and we got the win, which is the main thing, and there was good racing to boot.”

Stars boss David Hoggart said: “It was an excellent meeting, the track was good and although for us it’s a pity that Peterborough won, I suppose you’d want them to win their last league match here.

“I felt we lost a couple of points that we could have gained which would have made it a little bit closer, but I’m not disappointed because we got over 40 points, and congratulations to the Panthers.”

Meanwhile Peterborough have announced their Farewell to the Showground meeting will take place on Saturday October 7 (7pm).

The venue is still hugely popular for speedway but is subject to a planning application for housing and other facilities, and landlords have informed the club they will be unable to continue beyond this season.
