Oxford Cheetahs v Coventry Bees Select

OXFORD opened their 2026 campaign with a 52-38 win over a Coventry Select side in front of a big crowd at Cowley.

Skipper Sam Masters scored a 13+2 paid maximum for the Cheetahs, and Erik Riss also impressed with 13 points whilst Dayle Wood made an encouraging first appearance for the club with 8+1.

The visitors were managed by Danish legend Hans Nielsen, who rode for both clubs, and Coventry icon Chris Harris top-scored with 11+1, with former Bees mascot Dan Thompson notching 9+1.

Riss said: “I can be happy with 13 points, even though I am still a bit rusty out of the starts. I did my first five starts since June last Sunday and did another five tonight, so I will get there.

“From next week, we head into the serious stuff against Plymouth and I’ll be ready for it.

“I was very impressed with a few of the boys today and I feel there’s a really good vibe about our team at Oxford.”
