Report

NEWCASTLE kept up their home improvement with an impressive 52-38 win over Scunthorpe at Brough Park.

Diamonds skipper Matthew Wethers completed a successful weekend with 12+1 whilst reserve James Wright was in the major points with 14+3 from seven rides.

Adam Ellis won four races and scored 14 points for the Scorpions but they were again left point-less on the road.

Newcastle promoter Rob Grant said: “This was us at our best of the season so far with the team really pulling together with the best team spirit and beating a very, very fancied Scunthorpe side.

“All our lads looked much more up for it and got a result which I think will have surprised many people. Our season has really taken off this weekend and our team is a proper team now.

Scorpions manager Dave Peet said: “This was a track where we thought we could come and win, but it wasn’t to be.

“We were holding them for the first third of the meeting, but then they pulled away. The main difference between the two sides is that they were better than us out of the starts. If you didn’t get out of the gate, you were struggling. Newcastle has never been a happy hunting ground for us.”
