LEICESTER all-but secured their Championship play-off place with a 47-43 win over Edinburgh at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.

The Lions led throughout the meeting but a hard-working show from the Monarchs saw them gain reward with a last-heat 5-1 from Sam Masters (14) and Josh Pickering (12+1) for a useful league point.

Ryan Douglas headed a solid Leicester scorechart with 10+1 as they moved back ahead of Scunthorpe to fourth in the table.

Home star Nick Morris (8) said: “I think we were pretty comfortable all the way through the meeting, although they kept it close because they have a team of fighters and good riders.

“We were kind of in control of it all meeting, and we’ve got big meetings to come so it was a good test ahead of those.”

Monarchs boss John Campbell said: “Good to get a point at the end of it all, performance OK, exceptional at the end from Sam and Josh, and our guest Jordan Jenkins held us together at the start.

“He was very, very good and definitely kept us in it. Leicester have a lot of good riders but it was a very pleasing end to the night.

“Josh rode out of his skin to get second in the last race and wasn’t very pleased when I told him third place would have done!”
