Report
LEICESTER took control of the NDL Knockout Cup Final with a 55-29 home win over Mildenhall in the first leg.
Dan Thompson (12) and brother Joe (11+1) were both unbeaten from four rides with fellow heat-leader Connor Coles adding 10+1 as the Lion Cubs dominated at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.
Jason Edwards top-scored for the Fen Tigers with eight, and the meeting was curtailed with one race remaining due to a heavy downpour with the second leg taking place at West Row next Sunday (Sept 23).
Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “We wanted a good win, and to get that far ahead obviously puts us in a good position, although there’s still a job to finish at Mildenhall.
“It would have been nice to get further ahead, but you could see in Heat 14 that they were all having problems with the track with it being so slippery, so it was a sensible decision and we’d have taken a 26-point lead from the start.”
