King’s Lynn Stars v Ipswich Witches

KING’S Lynn raced to derby day success over local rivals Ipswich with a 54-36 win to take match and aggregate points at the Adrian Flux Arena.

The Stars had lost all four previous meetings with the Witches this season but they turned the tables in emphatic style with their new line-up and riding order paying dividends.

Ben Cook top-scored for the second time this week with 13 points, and he combined with Max Fricke (10+1) for a 5-1 in Heat 15 which made sure of maximum points from the meeting.

Lynn had also taken a 5-1 in Heat 14 involving new signing Jordan Jenkins (9+2) as they overturned a ten-point deficit from the reverse fixture.

Former Stars rider Richard Lawson piled up 14 points from six rides for the visitors, including four race wins, but they left Norfolk with a concern over skipper Danny King after a heavy fall in his last ride.

King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said:“ I was a little surprised by the final scoreline because Ipswich have proved already this year that they’ve got a solid outfit, apart from the odd result.

“But it was a good team performance from ourselves, and it’s what we’ve been waiting for all year really – a good, solid, all-round performance.

“Jordan has had a good spell of form lately, and I think that was the difference between getting that big win and a tight win. He rode fantastic, and it’s good to see.”

Ipswich boss Paul Hurry said: “Danny picked up and went into the fence hard. He took a knock between his shoulders and his neck. His head went back, and he was lucky not to knock himself out.

“They all tried. I made the changes needed to get us back into the meeting, and thankfully, Richard did the business with Tobi (Tobiasz Musielak) as a tactical sub.”
