Report

POOLE secured their first silverware of the season despite a second leg defeat at Glasgow in the BSN Series Final.

The Tigers won 48-42 on the night but this was nowhere near enough to overturn a huge 34-point first leg deficit, and the Pirates’ overall victory was mathematically guaranteed with six races remaining.

Benjamin Basso (12) and Tom Brennan (11+1) top-scored for Glasgow on the night, with skipper Steve Worrall leading the way for Poole on 11+1 whilst Ben Cook tallied 10.

Worrall said: “The BSN Series is a new trophy, and it is nice to have our name on it.

“I’ve been with Poole the last two seasons and know what it is like to win trophies, but they have been under Danny King’s captaincy, and I have got the honour now of taking that role and it is nice.

“You get to go and lift the trophy along with the lads and everyone appreciates the hard work. So it was good tonight. One down and two to go now.”

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “It was always going to be a massive uphill task. But we wanted to win at home in front of our fans, so it was job done.

“It’s obviously disappointing to lose any Final but now we must move on and focus on the league. We are in second place and need to keep pushing.

“But when we face Poole again we cannot allow ourselves to lose at their track so badly again. The last three seasons we’ve been very poor at their place and that’s where the damage has been done.”
