Report

OUTGOING Cab Direct Championship holders Glasgow signed off for 2024 with a 46-44 win over Oxford in another thrilling Ashfield contest on Sunday.

The Tigers have been unable to match their trophy exploits of last year but they have been involved in a run of exciting matches, and the latest against the Cheetahs threw up two stunning races in the closing stages.

Home skipper Chris Harris won both, getting the better of opposite number Sam Masters from the back, whilst a third place form Leon Flint in Heat 13 proved crucial to edge the hosts back ahead after the visitors had pulled back from ten points down.

Harris scored 13 for the Tigers whilst Masters racked up 15+1 from six rides for the Cheetahs and youngster Ashton Boughen kept up his sensational form with 13+1, including four successive race wins.

The result was comfortably enough for the visitors to take the aggregate point, completing an impressive 100 per cent record in that department for a second successive league season.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “Chris is simply incredible. He is the best No.1 in the league and one of the best riders this country has ever produced.

“We are very proud to have him as a Tiger. His final two rides in Heats 13 and 15 were unbelievable. To beat Sam Masters from behind on both occasions is different class.

“The racing was sublime and edge of the seat stuff.  It’s a great way to end the season with top drawer racing, that’s what we want.”
