Report

GLASGOW are the first team to secure a place in the BSN Series semi-finals thanks to a 48-42 win over Berwick at Ashfield.

The Tigers were taken to a last-heat decider by a battling Bandits side who fought back from 22-14 down to cut the gap to just two points with one race remaining.

In-form Dan Thompson completed a 13+2 paid maximum as he combined with skipper Chris Harris (14) for a 5-1 which got the home side over the line.

Peter Kildemand scored ten points for the visitors and Craig Cook (9) also won two races, but their hopes of progress in the competition are now over.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We’ve qualified for the semi-finals now. But we still have a lot of work to do. There’s no doubt we need to improve over the coming weeks.

“It was a gutsy performance. I expected it to be that sort of meeting.

“I never thought Berwick were out of it even when we went eight points up. They soon pegged us back to just two points. It was never over until the final chequered flag.”

Berwick manager Stewart Dickson said: “I had to give the riders a good talking to after Heat 4 because they were not following instructions to cover the inside line.

“We got better and hung onto Glasgow’s coattails, but there just wasn’t enough to land that final blow.”
