Edinburgh Monarchs v Berwick Bandits

EDINBURGH duo Kye Thomson and Dan Thompson both scored maximums in the Monarchs’ 54-36 BSN Series victory over Berwick.

Thomson went through the card with five rides and five wins for the full 15, whilst Thompson picked himself up from a Heat 1 crash with Peter Kildemand to score 13+2, following Thomson home for 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15.

Justin Sedgmen added 9+2 for the home side, who were comfortable winners with the Bandits hampered by the withdrawal of Kildemand who suffered a collarbone injury and concussion.

Thomson said: “It’s been a slow start with two home draws, some of us firing and some having a few dramas.

“But we’re talking a lot and trying to help the young ones get going. Tonight we’ve come out on top against a strong side.”

Nick Morris (11+1) and Victor Palovaara (10) reached double figures for Berwick, who host the return fixture at Shielfield Park tonight (Saturday) with Sam Hagon guesting for the injured Reid Battye.

Manager Stewart Dickson said: “Edinburgh have out-trapped us all night and we’ve been beaten by the better side.

“It was a difficult start, losing our No.1 straight away, and our thoughts are with Peter. It was a nasty looking crash and put us up against it immediately.

“But we regroup, Saturday is another day and we have to put pressure on Edinburgh from the off and see where that takes us.”
