BUXTON No.1 Alfie Bowtell took victory in the Derbyshire Open Championship at Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday.

Bowtell and Jason Garrity were both unbeaten in their qualification heats as they reeled off four straight victories, with Garrity just outside his own track record in his second ride as he clocked 54.85 seconds.

But in the Final Garrity was disqualified for a start-line infringement leaving Bowtell to take the trophy ahead of his Bulls team-mate Jack Roberts and Middlesbrough’s Alex Spooner.

Bowtell said: “I’m delighted to have won the meeting and to have remained unbeaten on the day.

“At the first time of asking I knew Jason would want to get out of the gate and beat me into the first turn, he then moved and the red lights went on immediately.

“Jack pushed early in the re-run but once I got in front it was a case of head down and making no mistakes.”
